Position Information
Keep City operations running through skilled administrative support. The City and County of Honolulu are seeking motivated and reliable individuals with clerical experience for Office Assistant III positions in multiple departments and locations. This entry-level role performs clerical and office support work, independently handling complex records, documents and reports, and office processes that support daily operations and public service delivery.
Current Vacancies- Honolulu Police Department – 9 positions (including roles with the Professional Standards Office, Investigative Bureau, Administrative Bureau, and others)
- Professional Standards Office – 2 positions (one may advance to Police Documents Clerk, one in Administrative Investigation & Inspection Unit*)
- Investigative Bureau – 2 positions (one in Scientific Investigation Section, one in Traffic Division*)
- Administrative Bureau – 2 positions (one in Human Resources Division, one in Financial Division)
- Supportive Services Bureau, Records and Identification Division – 1 position
- Legislative Liaison Office – 1 position*
- Central Patrol Bureau (District
7) – 1 position* - Department of Design and Construction, Land Division – 1 position
* Salary commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.
What You Will Do- Independently review, evaluate, and process complex forms, records, and documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with established requirements.
- Research information from paper and electronic records, organize findings, and prepare clear summaries and reports.
- Create, edit, and manage documents using word processing and other office software.
- Provide information to staff and the public by explaining policies, procedures, and requirements clearly and professionally.
- May guide, train, and review the work of clerical staff to support efficient office operations.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or a non‑citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Substantially equivalent to high school graduation. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may substitute for education.
Experience RequirementTwo years of clerical experience.
Competencies and Skills Needed- Knowledge of office practices and procedures
- Knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and word usage
- Knowledge of filing methods and systems
- Ability to keep records, summarize and analyze materials, and prepare reports
- Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment
- Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to deal with others in an effective and tactful manner
Business school or college‑level credits from an accredited college or university will substitute for experience on a month‑for‑month basis for the required clerical experience.
License RequirementPossession of an appropriate valid driver's license (type 3/automobile), as required depending on the specific vacancy.
