Education & Employment Counselor - Waianae and Haleiwa
RYSE Hawaiʻi seeks a full‑time Education and Employment Counselor to provide guidance, coaching, and planning support related to education, employment, financial literacy, and life skills for youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The Counselor supports participant motivation, removal of barriers, assessments, pre‑and post‑testing, and relational competency building, including facilitation of groups, permanency planning, goal setting, and life mapping. This role also includes GED study support and educational planning, linkage to education and employment resources, and coordinated wraparound support to promote long‑term stability and self‑sufficiency.
Job Responsibilities- Develops and maintains knowledge of evidence‑based concepts, principles, procedures, and practices for youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
- Works with youth one‑on‑one to develop individualized transition plans related to education, employment, life skills, and independent living using trauma‑informed approaches.
- Provides coaching and resource navigation services in areas related to life skills development, independent living, educational and vocational services, financial literacy, health and wellness, and leadership development.
- Supports youth with GED preparation, study skills, educational enrollment, and connection to alternative, vocational, or post‑secondary education pathways.
- Delivers financial literacy education, including budgeting, banking, income management, and real‑life financial readiness skills aligned with youth needs and lived experience.
- Serves as a client advocate when navigating education systems, employment opportunities, youth development, life‑skills resources, and community services outside of the agency.
- Provides assessment, safety planning, victim advocacy, guidance, and life‑planning support to clients during weekly and/or daily communication.
- Facilitates groups, workshops, and activities focused on positive youth development, life skills, employment readiness, wellness, and preparation for self‑sufficiency.
- Refers and links clients to appropriate community resources and provides coordinated wraparound support services as needed.
- Supports clients’ adjustment and motivation and provides crisis intervention when necessary.
- Assists youth in developing self‑regulation, impulse control, and coping skills that support independent living, education, and employment success.
- Builds and maintains relationships with community partners, including post‑secondary education institutions, training programs, financial education providers, and job development systems.
- Transports clients when necessary for appointments, activities, or services.
- Participates in and attends all staff meetings, staff development events, and appropriate agency‑wide committees.
- Maintains confidentiality and privacy standards of service partner protected health information and other applicable information in accordance with agency policies and all applicable state and federal laws, including HIPAA and victim confidentiality regulations.
- Monitors client progress and maintains accurate records, including data entry into approved databases.
- Prepares and submits required reports in a timely manner.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
- Two years of experience working in case management environment, preferred working with at‑risk youth or youth victims.
- Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma‑informed care and positive youth development.
- Ability to perform responsible work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
- Able to work in a very diverse setting with people of all backgrounds, culture and orientation.
- Ability to work effectively and exhibit professional work ethics, working cooperatively and respectfully with co‑workers, administration and other stakeholders within the community.
- Demonstrated leadership and problem‑solving abilities, training skills, creativity, and public speaking.
