DescriptionThe authorized level for this position is Educational Assistant III. Applications for Educational Assistant I and II may also be accepted in the event of recruiting difficulties. This role works independently to provide learning experiences in all areas of development and academic disciplines, in accordance with established guidelines, available resources, and the Early Learning classroom teacher.
Salary Range- Educational Assistant I (SR‑10): $3,019.78 per month
- Educational Assistant II (SR‑12): $3,260.76 per month
- Educational Assistant III (SR‑14): $3,526.98 per month
- Cultivate healthy, challenging learning environments; converse with children positively during activities, routines, and transitions; greet children upon arrival; instruct and model appropriate behavior; encourage positive social rapport; address conflicts and guide children during transitions.
- Implement and assess learning experiences based on plans and goals with the teacher; set up activities and learning centers; supervise group and individual learning activities; build positive relationships and guide children through supportive interactions.
- Observe children and document/assess their development and learning; collect other data as directed.
- Ensure overall health and safety for children; assist with toileting, handwashing, eating, resting, and play; report unsafe play or work areas; sanitize materials and surfaces; support children in stressful situations.
- Prepare and maintain learning materials and environment; organize and prepare learning centers as guided by the teacher; modify materials and environment as needed; consult with the teacher as necessary.
- Supervise before, during, and after class activities.
- Possession of a current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.
- Successful completion of training for a certificate that meets the CDA Credential preparation requirements, including 120 hours of formal education covering the growth and development of children ages 3‑5.
- Enrollment in a program, coursework, or training that prepares the student for a CDA Credential (proof of enrollment required).
- High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent.
- 48 semester credits of baccalaureate‑level courses from an accredited institution recognized by the Hawaii Department of Education, including 3 credits in math and 3 credits in English.
- Associate degree (AA or AS) with at least 48 baccalaureate‑level credits.
- Successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment provided by ETS.
- Educational Assistant I: 0 years general, 0 years specialized.
- Educational Assistant II: 1 year general, 0 years specialized.
- Educational Assistant III: 1 year general, 1 year specialized.
- Certificate of completion in child services or related program may substitute for ½ year general experience.
- 15 semester credits leading to an associate degree in teacher aide, educational assistant, or early childhood education may substitute for ½ year general experience (with or without practicum). A full associate degree with practicum may substitute for all general and specialized experience.
- 15 semester credits leading to a bachelor’s degree may substitute for ½ year general experience (with demonstrated awareness of basic educational programs). A bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent may substitute for all general and specialized experience.
- A professional diploma in education or equivalent may substitute for all general and specialized experience.
