Cashier II – Vehicle Registration & Licensing Division
This is a full‑time permanent position located in the Kailua‑Kona district. The position is part of the Department of Finance and is a career ladder position with the permanent class of work Vehicle Registration & Licensing Clerk, SR‑13, $3,900/month. Candidates must be available to work in the Kailua‑Kona district.
Responsibilities- Receives and records over-the-counter cash payments of current or delinquent accounts from the public and issues receipts.
- Informs the public of penalties and interests when delinquent payments are made.
- Maintains various files of duplicate bills to ascertain application of payment when not accompanied with bills.
- Verifies bills against remittances before issuing receipts.
- Determines the amounts to charge the public by using various laws and rules.
- Makes change, sorts, and counts cash.
- Receives mail payments.
- Balances cash receipts against receipt stubs and prepares a cash report to show distribution of cash received to the various accounts.
- Maintains daily and monthly records of all collections.
- Prepares bank deposit slips.
- Prepares bills for special accounts.
- Assists with other clerical work as needed.
- High school graduation.
- Four years of clerical work experience, with at least one year including responsibility for the collection and accounting for cash.
Substitution of education for professional experience:
- An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university may be substituted for lack of the required clerical experience on a year‑for‑year basis (e.g., 30 college credits can replace one year of required experience; an associate’s degree can replace two years; a baccalaureate degree or higher can replace four years).
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures; filing methods and systems; grammar, spelling, and word usage; purposes and uses of standard office machines; principles and practices of supervision.
- Ability to type or use keyboard; make arithmetic computations; compare names and numbers accurately; set up and maintain records; summarize and analyze materials; prepare reports; operate standard office machines and equipment; interpret laws, ordinances, regulations and policies pertinent to the department; give and follow oral and written instructions; deal tactfully and effectively with the public and resolve complaints; supervise and work harmoniously with others.
