About the roleThe Quality Assurance Technician III works closely with QA and Brewing Operations teams to maintain and continually improve beer quality from raw materials through packaging. This role performs microbiological and analytical testing, supports sensory evaluation, and partners with brewery staff to drive quality‑mandated practices across the facility.
What you'll do- Support Kona Brewing Company’s mission and quality standards in all aspects of work.
- Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies and procedures, maintaining strong attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment and accurate records for all testing and analyses.
- Use, maintain, and calibrate analytical equipment and instrumentation.
- Aseptically collect and perform microbiological procedures and testing on raw materials, in-progress beer, and packaged beer.
- Run routine analytical analyses on fermenting and finished beer samples (e.g., ABV, calories, turbidity, color, IBU, pH, density, VDK).
- Run routine analyses on packaged beer (e.g., DO, CO₂, TPO, fill levels, ABV, pH).
- Conduct daily beer checks (temperature, psi, pH, gravity) to track fermentation and determine next steps.
- Conduct can seam analyses to verify package integrity.
- Support and participate in sensory panels to evaluate product quality.
- Communicate consistently with brewery personnel and management regarding quality assurance issues, trends, and findings.
- Adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to continuous improvement of quality processes.
- Train and validate employees on quality-minded procedures, sanitation practices, and testing methods.
- Bachelor’s degree or coursework in a science discipline (e.g., chemistry, microbiology, food science) is preferred; or equivalent experience such as a General Certificate or Diploma in Brewing from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling or similar institution.
- Familiarity with brewing, fermentation, and finishing stages of beer production.
- Strong technical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills; CCP and GMP policies preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and patience for brewing processes to achieve high quality standards.
$28‑$33 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
