Job SummaryLaw Enforcement Officer – Armed – Airport
. The Armed Airport Law Enforcement Officer will serve and help safeguard the airport, its facilities, its travelers, and airport operations.
Pay Rate: $28.86 / Hour with an hourly bonus of $3.58. Premium paid shall be based on the position actually worked by the employee.
Pre‑Employment Requirements- Graduate of Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program or Equivalent (must provide credentials upon applying)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Law Enforcement Officer License
- 22+ years of age
- 2+ years of professional law enforcement experience in the U.S. after graduating from a certified law enforcement academy (Federal, State, or County level)
- One of the following approved training programs:
- Certified State law enforcement recruit training
- Certified County law enforcement recruit training
- Federal law enforcement training
- Programs approved by the Director
- No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Must be able to supervise contractor personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, other law enforcement agencies and the public on matters related to security disputes, complaints, conduct or behavior of subordinate employees.
- Shall have no record of moral turpitude, domestic violence, untruthfulness, or mental or emotional disorders that may interfere with performance.
- Strong moral character, high standards and truthfulness.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Courtesy in interpersonal relationships with the public, airport employees, tenants, law enforcement and security personnel.
- Attentiveness and professional conduct with ability to recognize and respond to various situations.
- Provide customer service to clients by carrying out security‑related procedures, site‑specific policies, and, when appropriate, emergency response activities.
- Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem‑solving manner.
- Exercise sound judgment and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
- Show maturity in conduct, behavior, and attitude; take orders, follow instructions, and assume responsibility for one’s actions.
- Maintain alertness, attentiveness, and professional conduct; recognize and respond to situations with corrective actions.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Provide court appearances for citations issued on behalf of DOTA when required.
- Coordinate with airport management and other agencies to resolve security disputes and complaints.
- Mental and emotional ability to perform all duties required for assigned post/duties.
- Good physical health, capable of performing normal or emergency duties requiring moderate to arduous exertion: standing, walking, patrolling, climbing stairs, running, and self‑defense.
- Lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs. for a designated distance.
- Assist in safe evacuation of individuals, including carrying a small child or supporting persons with limited mobility.
- Subject to a random drug screen; must pass a one‑time physical examination within the past 6 months.
- Pass and complete a 12‑panel drug test and all future random drug testing.
- Correctable vision to 20/30 each eye with normal color vision.
- Hearing at a normal conversational level. Hearing aid may be used.
- Be able to exercise physical force if required in official duties.
- Pass a security background check conducted by the DOTA Pass and e.
- Well‑groomed and neat appearance as official representatives of the state.
