Salary: $5,107 to $6,221 per month (SR-20, Step D to I).
This position is located in the Department of Human Services, Office of Youth Services, Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility and is responsible for planning, managing, and developing counseling, treatment, and case management services for adjudicated law violators committed to the HYCF by the family courts. The position also manages a caseload of juveniles under the jurisdiction of HYCF or Family Court for the provision of services.

Education Requirements- Social Worker (Act 238, SLH 2005): A bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a doctoral degree in social work from a college or university accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, or a comparable regional accreditation body.
- Human Services Professional: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university that includes a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in courses such as counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology, or other behavioral sciences. Excess work experience that is comparable to four years of study may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Social Worker: One year of specialized experience for BSW holders; no specialized experience required for MSW or Ph.D. holders.
- Human Services Professional: One and a half years of specialized experience.
- Drug screening as required by federal, state, or local laws, and departmental policy.
- Intensive background check.
- Driver's license required for some positions and at the time of appointment.
- Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) requirements:
The applicant must not have engaged in sexual abuse in a correctional or institutional setting, must not have been convicted of sexual activity involving force or coercion, must not have been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in such activity, and must not have been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse.
Applicants
Applicants who will graduate within three months and will meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements upon graduation will be accepted for examination. If graduating within three months with a Bachelor of Social Work degree or applicable Master’s degree, submit a copy of the official transcript of coursework completed thus far and a letter from the department head or registrar verifying current enrollment, expected graduation date, and major.
