Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and type of truck. Drivers transport material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material, navigating high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, and performing highly skilled backing maneuvers.
Residential Drivers collect residential household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuvering vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, and high‑traffic roadways, often in tight overhead environments, and performing highly skilled backing maneuvers.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements, and all local, state and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Immediately report unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Operations Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries or property damage.
- Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets, heavy receptacles or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- English language proficiency (read, write, and speak) sufficient to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- CDL Class A, with air‑brake endorsement, upon hire, or CDL Class B with air‑brake endorsement, upon hire.
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
- Standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, talking, hearing.
The expected base pay range for this position is $34.75 per hour. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
