General DescriptionThe Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)(3) non‑profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ‑centered ministry dedicated to sharing the gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. Every position is essential in fulfilling our ministry and statement of purpose. Each employee must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
Overview/ Summary
The Main Entry Desk and Office is the first area of contact that visitors have upon entering our ministry. It reflects the professionalism, kindness, and Christ’s love. The Main Entry Staff receive, greet, and phone visitors and direct them to the appropriate department. Each team member performs various administrative duties listed below under the direction of the VP of Operations. There must be someone at the front desk at all times, unless stepping away briefly.
EssentialFunctions
- Uphold, promote, and encourage the organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture based on grace and affirming KGM’s vision and purpose.
- Oversee all activities during shift at the front desk of the main entry.
- Maintain a peaceful and orderly front office.
- Answer all incoming telephone calls and direct them to the proper departments.
- Receive and announce visitors/volunteers to designated team members.
- Work closely and communicate well with team members at the front desk, ensuring adherence to policy and procedures for main entrance.
- Train and grow the front desk team in all aspects of administrative performance.
- Order needed cleaning supplies for the front office and restroom on a weekly basis using the Maintenance Supply Form; fill out purchase orders for office supplies when needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized front office.
- Assist with community service and volunteers: scan workers in and out, process Mission .
- Receive mail from the mail carrier and, with another team member present, pull out donations, bundle them, date the top of each bundle, and secure them in a lock box; remaining mail is sorted and placed in mailboxes.
- Receive monetary donations or new items donated at the front entrance window; direct all other household donations to donation drop‑off and kitchen donations to the Food Service Department.
- Perform general clerical duties including but not limited to photocopying, faxing, mailing and filing.
- Maintain all administrative documents.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and accuracy when preparing and entering information.
- Handle difficult visitors with firm grace and love, representing Christ and the ministry in all interactions.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and telephone protocol; professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to serve Him.
- Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
- Exhibit spiritual maturity as defined by evangelical biblical standards and in accordance with the employee handbook.
- Have a heart of compassion and caring toward the homeless and hurting, and a passion for ministering life transformation in an urban setting.
- Demonstrate a courteous and Christ‑like manner with internal and external partners.
- Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, rapid decisions; demonstrate excellent integrity.
