Child Nutrition Specialist
Pay RateFull time position, $15 - $17 depending on education and experience
Reports toChild Nutrition Coordinator
Position SummaryAssist with all phases of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) to ensure both programs operate in accordance with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and USDA program guidelines and requirements.

- Implement menus that meet CACFP, SFSP, USDA, and MDE nutrition standards, ensuring inclusivity and dietary accommodations.
- Assist the Child Nutrition Coordinator with ordering, receiving, and managing food and supply inventory to minimize waste.
- Prepare meal service, including safe transport of food to off-site program locations.
- Assist the Child Nutrition Coordinator in maintaining accurate records and ensuring full compliance with all state and federal guidelines.
- Uphold food safety and sanitation standards in accordance with health department regulations.
- Collaborate with program staff and other YMCA departments to support meal service and organizational initiatives.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings, maintain required certifications (First Aid/CPR), and stay current on child nutrition best practices.
- Ensure all youth are safe from abuse and as required by Michigan law, report any suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect to your supervisor and Children’s Protective Services.
- High school diploma or GED
- Six months to one year of experience in a food service setting or equivalent combination of education, training
- Current Serv Safe certification or ability to obtain
- Experience with USDA food programs helpful
- Basic computer skills
- Some light lifting required
- Able to interact positively with members, participants, guests, and staff
