Concrete Laborer

This role supports commercial foundation and concrete work on an active construction site. You will report directly to the job site each morning and assist with tasks such as setting forms, handling materials, and helping with concrete pours and basic finishing. The position is physically demanding, requires frequent heavy lifting, and involves working outdoors in a busy, dusty construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Report to the commercial construction job site each morning at the designated start time.
  • Assist with foundation work, including preparation for footings and foundation walls.
  • Carry concrete materials, tools, and equipment from the truck to the work area throughout the day.
  • Construct and set wooden and metal forms for footings and foundation walls according to blueprints and layout instructions.
  • Follow direction from the foreman on form placement, alignment, and adjustments.
  • Use tools such as hammers and tape measures to assemble, secure, and align concrete forms accurately.
  • Frequently lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds as part of daily tasks.
  • Assist with concrete pours, including preparing the area, helping with placement, and supporting the crew during the pour.
  • Perform basic concrete finishing using trowels and other hand tools as directed.
  • Support general site housekeeping and cleanup, including removing debris and organizing tools and materials.
  • Work safely around machinery, tools, and other trades operating on the construction site.
  • Adapt to changing tasks and priorities based on workload, weather conditions, and project needs.
Essential Skills
  • Concrete finishing or foundation experience in a construction setting.
  • Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure.
  • Capability to frequently lift up to 100 pounds and perform physically demanding labor throughout the workday.
  • Experience using basic construction tools such as hammers, tape measures, and trowels.
  • Reliability to arrive on site early in the morning and work full shifts as scheduled.
  • Ability to follow directions from a foreman and work effectively as part of a construction crew.
  • Ownership of wet boots, a hard hat, and basic hand tools required for daily work.

Work

Environment

This is a full-time, on-site role on a commercial construction project, specifically at a senior living facility build in Kalamazoo running through the end of fall at the latest. Start times typically range between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays required based on workload. The workday usually finishes around 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., depending on project needs and weather conditions.

All work takes place outdoors on an active construction site that is dirty and dusty, with multiple trades working in close proximity. The environment includes heavy machinery, power tools, and frequent movement of people, materials, and equipment. Proper personal protective equipment is required, including wet boots, a hard hat, and appropriate work attire suitable for outdoor construction conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kalamazoo, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
