The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing the field through engaging teaching, innovative research, and meaningful service to the university and broader educational communities. We seek a candidate who is passionate about preparing future special educators.
Major Duties
* Support and advance the mission of the department and Western Michigan University by fostering a learning environment that supports students and contributes to the department's strategic goals.
* Teach and continuously improve courses on autism spectrum disorder, using student-centered approaches in face-to-face, hybrid and/or virtual classes.
* Provide academic advising and mentorship to students and supporting their academic and career development.
* Maintain an active research agenda in special education, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, and applying for research funding.
* Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the department's programs and initiatives.
* Contribute to departmental committees, participate in faculty governance, and engage in university-wide initiatives.
* Engage in service to the professional community through participation in relevant associations.
* Engage in outreach activities and community partnerships.
Minimum Qualifications
* Earned doctorate in special education or closely related field from an accredited insitution with a clear emphasis in autism spectrum disorders (ABD considered).
* At least 3 years of teaching, intervention delivery, or direct service experience in a preK-12 or clinic setting with students with ASD.
* Strong behavioral background and knowledge/expertise with evidence-based practices with students with ASD.
* Research agenda focused on ASD and demonstrated potential for high quality research and scholarly productivity.
Desired Qualifications
* Experience teaching special education courses in higher education.
* Experience with online teaching.
* Hold or be eligible for Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification.
* Clinical supervision experience in preK-12 school or clinic settings.
* Knowledge of the grant writing process and interest in seeking funding for educational initiatives or research.
