Assistant​/Associate Professor - Gilmore School of Music - Tenure Track

Western Michigan University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Choral Conducting and Choral Music Education for the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music, College of Fine Arts. The position will require in-person instruction on the WMU main campus in Kalamazoo. This is an academic year position at 1.0 FTE. The anticipated start date is Fall of 2026.

Major Duties

* Conduct the University Chorale and other ensembles as assigned.

* Teach undergraduate and graduate level academic courses as assigned on topics related to choral conducting, choral performance, choral literature, and choral music education.

* Engage in recruitment for undergraduate and graduate students.

* Engage in research/creative scholarship.

* Other teaching duties as assigned.

* Attend departmental faculty and area meetings and engage in service to the University as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* A doctorate degree in Choral Conducting or Choral Music Education from an accredited institution, or ABD from an accredited institution by time of appointment.

* Substantial experience conducting choirs at the collegiate level.

* Significant teaching experience at the collegiate level in courses related to choral conducting, choral literature, and choral music education.

* A record of extensive performance activities.

Desired Qualifications

* Experience conducting choirs in a professional context.

* 3 or more years recruiting students to music programs.

* Previous K-12 music education experience.
