Position: Visiting Assistant Professor English- 19th Century
Kalamazoo College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of English, beginning September 2026. We seek a scholar of nineteenth century literatures (British or American) with a high aptitude for and interest in undergraduate teaching and a commitment to the liberal arts.

The successful candidate will teach six courses over three terms. This includes two different survey courses in nineteenth century literature, two sections of a thematically organized introduction to literature course, and two other electives that can be built around the candidates area of expertise, one of which will contribute to the College's Shared Passages Sophomore Seminar program. In line with the department's current offerings and curricular values, we seek candidates with secondary interests in race and empire studies, gender and sexuality studies, disability studies, and environmental studies.

The position will also require the supervision of senior thesis projects, which all students must complete to graduate.

Thirty-five miles from Lake Michigan, the area offers many opportunities for outdoor activities. The college's 145-acre Lillian Anderson Arboretum, a 10-15 minute drive from campus, provides substantial opportunities for teaching and research in a field setting.
