Job Description

CASA, Children’s After School Enrichment (CASA) is a community after-school program of Hope College that promotes educational achievement among underrepresented students in the Holland area. By way of collaboration with local schools, we seek to build strong learners in the early years of their education, support their right to quality education, and promote equal access to the tools they need to be successful.

Step Up empowers middle school students to excel academically and personally by providing a supportive environment where their social, emotional, and educational needs are met through dedicated small-group mentoring.

CASA and Step Up students work with Hope College faculty, staff, college students and community volunteers in a mentoring relationship to enhance their academic progress.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the school year after-school programming AND summer programs including:
    • Develop curriculum, activities, field trips and events for elementary and middle school students
    • Prepare all materials needed to implement programming including pre-post assessments, reading and math inventories and support strategies to enhance student learning
    • Work with school principals, teachers and counselors to identify students for the program as well as create goals for student progress
    • Communicate programs, events and activities with parents/guardians and caregivers
    • Oversee and maintain all State of Michigan camp licensing and child care licensing rules and regulations and handle all aspects of licensing renewal
  • Oversee the program’s implementation and delivery including:
    • Hiring and oversight of all student employees, volunteers and interns
    • Hiring and oversight of all CASA & Step Up permanent staff and summer staff
    • Creating schedules for student groups, locations and mentors
    • Coordinate transportation for the students
    • Provide training of all staff on the Youth Protection Policy, Hope Code of Conduct, and other Hope required training for working with youth
  • Budget and fiscal management of all programming
    • Oversee multiple funding accounts to ensure budgets are accurate and remain solvent
    • Manage all aspects of budgets, deposits, and donations
    • Write grants to secure additional program funding and maintain all grant requirements and deadlines
    • Continue to work with CASA and Step Donors to maintain funding and secure additional revenue for growth
    • Identify new donors to increase donor base
  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, on-campus partners, businesses and nonprofits to improve programs and create more opportunities for the programs
  • Collaborate with the Office of Educational Outreach and cohort programs including:
    • Explore Hope, PATH, RISE, and HASP
  • Other expectations
    • Providing extensive personal interaction and communication with staff, faculty, students and the general public
    • General administrative responsibilities including interacting with visitors and answering their questions, answering phone calls and emails
    • Maintaining and ordering of all supplies and office materials and program materials
    • Complete internal and external annual reporting by collecting materials and preparing documents
    • Maintain all department websites, Google Forms and spreadsheets
    • Facilitate communications with other departments, donors and alumni both via email, website and at events
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with five or more years of experience in education, non-profit administration, communications, or related field
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and budgeting
  • Significant experience working with elementary and middle school students from underrepresented and underserved populations
  • Conversational in Spanish preferred
