The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) is a critical part of Michigan’s education system serving the Greater Kalamazoo region and provides specialized services to schools and communities and optimizes resources by centralizing innovative programs and services. We partner with school districts and the broader community to offer essential programs including early childhood education, special education, career learning, and educator development, ensuring that learners of all ages receive the support they need.
We are currently seeking an Instructional Coach at Valley Center School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The essential responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Align services with KRESA Core Values (Collaboration, Innovation, Compassion, Respect, and Integrity) and Culture & Belonging principles to engage and serve all students
- Ability to work well with people; demonstrate and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills
- Must remain knowledgeable about current and past research in content areas and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching role
- Must develop deep content and pedagogical knowledge in the evidence-based intervention use
- Identifies school teaching and learning needs, barriers and weaknesses by analyzing student data and organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers
- Knowledge and experience using a coaching process with other teachers
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively
- Ability to manage time and schedules flexibly in a way that maximizes teacher learning
- Ability to work with teams to develop goals for improving student achievement
- Demonstrated teacher leadership skills
- Facilitates school-based professional development working with teachers and staff in teams or individually to refine their knowledge and skills (e.g. in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, developing lesson plans with teachers, supporting data analysis, etc.).
- Builds and maintains confidential relationships with teachers
- Monitors instructional effectiveness and student progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development
- Meets regularly with PLC teams and administration to report on instructional practices while also planning the next steps for student and school improvement
- Provide professional development on best practices in literacy instruction across the curriculum as it relates to a student population with significant special needs
- Coordinate the requests for change in placement and state assessments
- Increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction
- Assist with lesson planning alongside teachers
- Observe classroom instruction and student response
- Model lessons and co-teach
- Engage in data-based debriefs with teachers, including analysis of student work
- Provide instructional recommendations through feedback
- Develop coaching plans and schedule follow-up sessions to support instructional implementation
- Align instruction with curriculum to meet the needs of all students
- Assist teachers in using formative assessment data to guide instruction
- Recommend instructional strategies tailored to learner needs
- Design collaborative, job-embedded, standards-based professional learning
- Plan, deliver, follow up, and assess professional development at the school
- Promote specialized instructional practices based on research
- Help develop teachers’ knowledge and skills in differentiating for multiple learners
- Assess teachers to determine instructional needs in assigned areas
- Ensure student achievement data drives classroom and school-level instructional decisions
- Assess leadership in disaggregating formative and summative student performance data
- Assess instructional needs of students and training needs of the school
- Guide data discussions with teachers
- Facilitate the examination of student work
- Plan with teachers for data-driven focused instruction
- Model continuous learning and serve as a thought-leader in the school
