Western Michigan University has a position opening in Kalamazoo, Michigan for a permanent full-time tenure track Faculty Specialist – Clinical Specialist in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology. The position requires a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counselor Education and a doctoral dissertation in the area of underrepresented student populations in Counselor Education, including 12 months of full‑time experience managing clinical counseling services or training.

A limited licensed counselor license in the State of Michigan is also required.

Job duties include:

  • Teaching university graduate courses in general counseling and clinical courses including CE 6045 Counseling Techniques; CE 6855 Theories of Counseling; CE 6615 Foundations Systemic Family Therapy; CE 6132 Internship II; and CE 7121 Doctoral Internship I:
    Supervision and Counseling.
  • Serving as a faculty member in the counselor education unit and the clinical coordinator within the unit.
  • Teaching and service roles for a total of 15 credit hours per semester, including general and clinical graduate courses, serving as clinical coordinator, and graduate student advising.
  • Coordinating practicum and internship experiences, and working with the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CCPS) directors and staff.
  • Coordinating the administrative aspects of clinical experiences within the department from the application process to assisting with class assignments.
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with site supervisors to ensure compliance with all departmental expectations for students' clinical experiences and to support site supervisors’ roles.
  • Advising graduate students and serving on departmental committees.
