Academic Coach Comstock High School
Position:
Academic Coach Comstock High School (.5 FTE) (Funded by At--Risk)
Salary:
Dependent on years of experience, certification, and HQ status
Eligible school for Teacher Loan Forgiveness Merit Pay Sick Day Buyback Program Tuition Reimbursement per CEA Contract
Available: 2026-27 School Year
Certification:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or School Counselor License
Qualifications:
- 10 years of teaching or relevant work experience
- Experience with master scheduling; creating/building student schedules
- Ability to create 4 year plans that align with student's Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and post-secondary goals
- Knowledge of Michigan Merit Curriculum, graduation requirements, diploma tracks, and creating personalized high school student schedules
- Extensive experience working with youth, families, and community organizations
- Experience in the development and facilitation of professional development
- Experience in promoting equity and inclusion in a multicultural environment
- Excellent organization, planning, professionalism, and time management skills
- Knowledge of K-12 curriculum scope and sequences
- Ability to support restorative justice initiatives
Responsibilities:
- Develop personalized student schedules and audits which are challenging and appropriate for graduation requirements and career plans
- Assist with the development of a building-wide master schedule
- Creation and implementation of student academic contracts
- Conduct orientation activities for students new to the school
- Evaluate transcripts of incoming students for the purpose of transferring grades and semester credit into the school information system
- Work with a team to develop a district-wide system to assist students in developing future career plans
- Assist in the identification of "at-risk" students
- Develop, continually revise, and ensure the implementation of Section 504 plans
- Administer standardized tests and interpret results
- Provide support for student success as they transition from the STEM Academy to Comstock High School
- Provide professional development to support staff in, curriculum, instruction, and assessment by teaching and modeling research-based strategies and routines
- Monitor and schedule the implementation of extension & intervention program
- Assist with building initiatives, such as Leader in Me and Restorative Practices as needed
- Maintain confidentiality
- Maintain records consistent with ethical and legal guidelines
- Participate on the school-based crisis team
- Perform responsibilities in an organized, accurate, timely, and dependable manner
- Operate within the established district and school procedures and policies
- Attend district in-services and meetings
- Keep informed of current professional trends
- Demonstrate ability to maintain a positive climate for students
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
- Participate in building and district committees
- Perform "Essential Job Functions" as specified
- Other duties as assigned by administration
