This position is hybrid.
Are you detail‑oriented and interested in combining technical skills with real estate work? As an Engineering Technician, you’ll provide vital support in project review, research and coordination, while using technical applications that help keep Oakland County projects running smoothly.
What You’ll Do- Provide technical services and engineering support under general supervision.
- Perform property research and prepare legal documents to support project construction.
- Respond to resident inquiries requesting property information.
- Use specialized software to provide title research, property information, project management assistance, and maps.
- Participate in meetings with County and non‑County personnel and assist higher‑level engineering staff.
- Enter, update, and manage data in databases, spreadsheets, and reports.
- Create interactive reports, forms, and maps using various technical tools.
- Provide technical direction and support for department personnel.
- Operate digital cameras, scanners, construction plan editing tools, project management software, and related devices to support projects.
- Utilize Countywide and department‑specific software to complete assignments.
- You’ll get to use a wide variety of technology and software to support engineering projects.
- Your work will have a direct impact on county infrastructure and community services.
- You’ll gain hands‑on experience in both real estate and technical project support.
- You’ll collaborate with both County staff and external partners on meaningful projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test.
Have had at least three (3) years of full‑time work experience performing mapping, engineering, community planning, surveying, property assessing, architectural work, database management, or programming.
NOTE:
Up to two (2) years full‑time course credits at an accredited college or university in a related field of study may be substituted for up to two (2) years full‑time experience.
Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.
Pass the complete examination including the employment medical, established for this classification.
Successfully complete the six month probationary period.

Essential Job FunctionsAssists other employees within department to access and develop specific mapping information and data.
Produces high‑quality maps and reports on a regular basis.
Enters engineering and project data using a laptop or PC (payment data, land record information, etc.).
May monitor and log data regarding operation and construction projects. For example, water and sewer use and rates for a specific jurisdiction over the course of certain time periods.
Estimates, monitors, and verifies project costs prior to presenting to higher‑level staff.
Prepares and mounts visual displays to be used in presentations (e.g. maps which are necessary in a legal case, drawings…
