Researches and carries out complex or innovative engineering assignments requiring the development of new or improved methods, techniques, and procedures, especially in electromagnetic design of AC and DC motors. Ensures timely project completion to meet cost and customer service objectives. Acts as Project Leader with technical responsibility for design planning, organization, and execution of technical projects, especially involving gear design and manufacturing integration with product engineering for optimal design for manufacturing and assembly.
Scope/ Supervision and Interaction
Does not have direct reports.
The Project Engineer has authority and responsibility for design, verification, and development of assigned projects and products. Must work and communicate with engineering personnel, personnel from other client divisions and headquarters, potential vendors, academic professionals, customers, governmental agencies, and other technology providers.
Responsibilities- Develop project goals and objectives by reviewing proposals, plans, and conferring with management.
- Maintain project schedule and prepare status reports and milestone reviews.
- Prepare detailed project plans, technical studies, cost estimates, and resource allocations.
- Coordinate design efforts and review technical work such as system schematics, layouts, algorithms, and test plans.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives in design and process engineering.
- Investigate and resolve problems, propose solutions, and verify product performance through tests.
- Prepare product and system layout drawings, schematics, and manufacturing process documentation.
- Maintain engineering project database and historical files.
- Develop tooling and fixtures, work with vendors to supply designs.
- Provide consulting to management on major matters and establish project goals.
- Mentor less experienced employees and serve as a functional expert when needed.
- Represent the company on specific projects and participate in cross‑functional improvement efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related technical discipline.
- At least ten years of related experience, including extensive gear design and manufacturing expertise.
- Working knowledge of solid model CAD, FEA, simulation software, and DFM/DFA principles.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electronic, packaging, optics, or related engineering theories and industry practices.
- Ability to integrate knowledge from other engineering areas and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in standard business applications, data analysis, design, and project management tools.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects, set goals, and provide status updates to senior management, customers, and boards of directors.
