The Associate Process Safety Manager is responsible for supporting Kalsec in maintaining compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations, the Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM) program, and NFPA 660 combustible dust standards. This position provides overall coordination and oversight of these programs, offering guidance and direction to program element owners. The Associate Process Safety Manager partners with Production, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to interpret and apply applicable regulations, codes, and standards to ensure compliance and promote safe operations.

  • Lead and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) at Kalsec.
  • Serve as the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Leader by:
    • Ensuring consistency and conformity of PHA processes and practices.
    • Maintaining the PHA lifecycle, including:
      • Preloading and scheduling PHAs.
      • Communicating PHA results to affected personnel.
    • Determining the need for new PHAs or other safety reviews and ensuring PHAs are updated as required based on Management of Change (MOC) reviews.
    • Serving as the Process Safety subject matter expert for PHAs.
    • Uploading recommendations into VisiumKMS and monitoring timely completion.
    • Supporting PSM element owners.
  • Conduct or support PSM audits and ensure timely follow-up and completion of assigned recommendations.
  • Utilize PSM experience and knowledge to support capital projects and process technology development by:
    • Providing leadership for Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), including review of safety systems.
    • Providing technical support related to process safety for new products and processes.
    • Serving as a technical resource on interlocks, relief devices, equipment, and materials of construction to ensure reliable and safe operations, collaborating with subject matter experts as needed.
    • Providing process safety input to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, site standards, best practices, and recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP).
  • Develop site safety policies and best practices related to process safety.
  • Lead and maintain the Management of Change (MOC) program and recommendation tracking program, including:
    • Administration of the VisiumKMS software platform.
    • Performing system updates, testing, and training as needed.
    • Maintaining accurate and current VisiumKMS databases, workflows, and user information.
    • Reporting on the timely completion of MOCs and recommendations.
  • Coordinate the site's Process Safety Information (PSI) element and collaborate with subject matter experts to strengthen and maintain the system.
  • Ensure paper and electronic storage workflows are maintained for all Process Safety documentation, including:
    • Process Safety Information (PSI)
    • Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
    • Management of Change (MOC)
    • Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
    • Facility Siting
    • Mechanical Integrity documentation
  • Organize, analyze, and present process safety data to support transparent communication and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years related experience as an individual contributor and 2+ years managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required

  • Education in Engineering, Science, or Safety.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience supporting OSHA  Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
  • Experience participating in or facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) using HAZOP and What-If methodologies with risk assessment matrices.
  • Strong computer skills, including database management and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for continuous improvement of process safety with a focus on risk reduction.
  • Experience serving as a PHA Leader or Facilitator.
  • Experience with PHAWorks RA and EHS software programs (MOC, Action tracking, Incident Reporting, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Good Engineering Practices.
Working Conditions
