Position: Medical Assistant (MA) OBGYN

Medical Assistant – OBGYN Commerce

Tenet Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support our OBGYN practice in Commerce. The role involves direct patient care, vital sign assessment, medication administration, and collaboration with physicians to ensure high quality, compassionate care.

Job Summary

As a Medical Assistant, you will assist physicians with exams and procedures, administer prescribed oral medications and injections, perform venipuncture and CLIA‑waived lab testing, maintain a clean and safe environment, and contribute to accurate charting and documentation. The position is non‑exempt and under physician supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Adheres to Tenet Physician Resources’ mission, policies, and HIPAA compliance plan.
  • Supports the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by knowing compliance responsibilities, following the Code of Conduct, and reporting compliance issues promptly.
  • Assists in the assessment of patient needs by taking vital signs, collecting patient history, reviewing medication listing, and determining the chief complaint; assesses patients’ physical and mental status.
  • Completes all necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record in accordance with practice charting policy.
  • Prepares equipment and assists physicians with medical treatments, exams, and procedures.
  • Administers prescribed oral medications and gives intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections; performs venipuncture, CLIA‑waived, and non‑CLIA waived lab testing.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for patients and visitors, including cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments; stocks rooms and takes inventory of medical supplies.
  • Complies with personal protective equipment requirements to protect against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and hazardous substances.>
  • Arranges for specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by physicians and notifies appropriate insurance personnel to pre‑certify surgeries or tests.
  • Answers office phones, assists front desk in scheduling appointments, directs calls appropriately, and assists with referral processing and scheduling.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited school or three years of relevant work experience in a healthcare setting in lieu of a Medical Assistant diploma.
  • CPR/BLS certification required;
    Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification or one year of relevant work experience highly preferred.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited school or three years of relevant work experience in place of a Medical Assistant diploma.
Certifications
  • CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
Experience
  • Three years of relevant work experience in a healthcare setting in lieu of a Medical Assistant diploma, or a current Medical Assistant certification.
  • One year of relevant work experience with a Medical Assistant diploma highly preferred.
