Advanced CNC Operator/Lead – Second Shift
Location:
Kalamazoo, MI
Shift: Monday–Thursday | 3:30 PM – 1:30 AM
Pay Type:
Hourly (USD) $28-$35 + Shift Differential
As a CNC Vertical Mill Specialist
, you will operate advanced CNC 3‑ and 4‑axis vertical milling machines while serving as a strong second‑shift presence on the floor. This is a hands‑on machining role with added responsibility to support production flow, quality, and team performance.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC vertical milling machines
- Perform tooling changes, offset adjustments, and positional corrections
- Maintain production pace at or above expected rates
- Complete part changeovers efficiently
- Inspect first-run and in-process parts using calipers, micrometers, and optical equipment
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, inspection packets, and GD&T
- Identify issues and make real-time process adjustments
- Maintain quality standards and minimize scrap
- Serve as a point person for second shift machinists
- Communicate daily production goals set by supervisory leadership
- Assist with onboarding and training of new team members
- Provide daily touchpoints and coaching to support performance
- Help make real-time operational decisions to keep production moving
- Communicate shift performance, concerns, and wins to the supervisory team
- Model and enforce strong 5S, safety, and preventive maintenance practices
- Identify high performers and skill gaps within the shift
This role is for someone who takes pride in doing things right — and is ready to step up.
Required Qualifications- Minimum 2 years of CNC machining experience (milling preferred)
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading
- Experience with tooling, offsets, and high‑speed machining
- Ability to accurately use measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, optical equipment)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Self‑motivated with a willingness to learn and take initiative
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Ability to stand and walk for the duration of a full shift
- Experience in aerospace or medical manufacturing
- Informal leadership, mentoring, or training experience
- Technical education or machining certificate
