Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Neuro Med/Surg RN to join a specialized 40-bed Neuroscience Unit (NVU). This unit provides care for patients with complex neurological and spinal conditions in a high-acuity medical-surgical environment. The RN will deliver patient-centered care, perform neurological assessments, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

About the Unit – NVU (Neuroscience Unit)

• Total Beds: 40

• Includes:
- 6 Step-Down / Telemetry beds
- 6 Bariatric beds
- 4-bed Neuro Monitoring Unit (seizure patients, age 5+)

• Patient Population:
- Stroke
- Epilepsy
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Neuro-inflammatory disorders
- Post-op neuro surgery
- Ortho spine (laminectomy, spinal fusion)

Patient Ratios (Nights)

• Typical: 1:5 – 1:6

• No LPN support on nights

• Charge RN is free when fully staffed (5 RNs)

• When short-staffed, charge may take patients

Float Requirement

• May float to:
- Other Med/Surg Units
- ICU Units
- ED Waiting Rooms

Key Responsibilities

• Perform neurological and head-to-toe assessments

• Monitor and manage post-op spine and neuro patients

• Provide patient education and discharge planning

• Administer medications and treatments

• Document care in EMR

• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams

Equipment & Systems

• Charting: EPIC

• Medication System:
Pyxis

Required Experience

• 1–2 years of Med/Surg RN experience preferred

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)

• NIHSS – Pending accepted, must obtain before start

Required License

• Active Michigan RN License
