Description:
The step down unit provides care for general medical and oncology step down patients.
Candidates must have ONCC or ONS certification in hand.
Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy via IV and starting IVs.
The unit is equipped with Welch Allyn vital sign towers, sigma IV pumps, and utilizes EPIC for documentation.
The nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:4-6, with support staff available if ratios increase.
Charge RN is not typically assigned to patient care.
Chemotherapy admissions may adjust assignment ratios.
Staff will work every other weekend and may float to other medical surgical areas as needed.
Scheduling is managed by the clinical manager, with requests for days off to be discussed on-site.
Staff must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.
Required vaccinations include the flu vaccine, with medical exemptions only.
Proof of vaccination is required during submission.
Modules are self-reported and completed annually.
The unit provides interdisciplinary support, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy, among others.
Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, cancer, heart failure, and diabetes.
Special procedures include continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and chemotherapy administration.
