Position Overview
Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) Internship – Bronson Methodist Hospital. This 6‑to‑8‑month full‑time day‑shift orientation program prepares licensed RN’s with at least 2 years of clinical experience for a career in surgical nursing. Interns will participate in extended orientation that includes classroom instruction, hands‑on training, clinical experience, and critical‑thinking development. After successful completion of orientation the intern will transition into an available OR RN position, which may involve placement on any shift (including night) depending on departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities- Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation.
- Assess the patient’s physical, developmental, and emotional needs.
- Analyze assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs.
- Document nursing history and age‑appropriate physical/emotional needs for assigned patients.
- Review vital signs to assess condition and detect deviations from normal.
- Determine patient problems or issues using assessment data.
- Confirm problems with patient and family when appropriate.
- Document expected outcomes and plan of care related to the problems through clinical pathway and outcome teaching record.
- Identify expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient.
- Incorporate patient/family input and values when defining outcomes.
- Coordinate discharge planning for outcomes not achieved.
- Develop a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implement appropriate interventions.
- Administer prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with nursing techniques and policies.
- Utilize evidence‑based interventions specific to the patient’s plan.
- Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of the patient.
- Initiate patient education plan according to individualized needs.
- Manage the care plan by organizing and delegating patient care interventions.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care given by self and others.
- Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes.
- Assess the effectiveness of interventions and patient response.
- Document patient response toward outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and use results to initiate changes in nursing practice.

Full‑time, 40 hours per week, day‑shift orientation (6‑to‑8months). After orientation, placement may occur on any shift, including night, depending on department needs. Work may involve mental or visual fatigue with frequent deadlines and operating a personal computer for up to 40percent of the time. The job includes lifting up to 50pounds and occasional assistance with heavier tasks.
