We are seeking compassionate and skilled Registered Nurses to join our Obstetric team on the night shift. Opportunities are available across Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, and Mother‑Baby units. This role supports mothers and newborns throughout the labor, delivery, and postpartum experience while providing high‑quality, patient‑centered care.

About the Obstetric Department

The Obstetric Department includes Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, and Mother‑Baby services. Our team supports patients throughout pregnancy, delivery, and recovery. Most of our patients are healthy women admitted for childbirth. Patient acuity is considered when making assignments and may vary by unit.

We place a strong emphasis on patient education, ensuring mothers and families feel prepared and confident lab oration, teamwork, and compassionate care are central to our department’s culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, high‑quality nursing care to obstetric patients
  • Monitor maternal and newborn health status
  • Educate patients and families throughout the care journey
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow clinical protocols
Standards of Practice (Selected Tasks)
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patients’ health or the situation
  • Assess the patient’s physical and developmental needs
  • Analyze assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs
  • Document nursing history and age‑appropriate physical/emotional needs/strengths for assigned patients
  • Review vital signs to assess condition of patient and detect deviations from normal
  • Identify patient problems or issues, confirm problems with patient and family when appropriate, and document the expected outcomes and plan of care
  • Coordinate discharge planning for outcomes not achieved using available continuum of care
  • Develop a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes, incorporating clinical pathways and individualized interventions with patient input
  • Implement the identified plan, including administering prescribed medication, utilizing evidence‑based interventions, maintaining comfort and safety, initiating patient education, managing care plan, delegating interventions, and evaluating effectiveness
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes and document patient response
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required;
    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Critical Care or ALS certification, and other certifications may be required for some RNs, especially on Labor & Delivery and Mother‑Baby units at BMH & BBC
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring
  • Current driver’s license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for BAH
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment to set an appropriate plan
  • Proficient in verbal, written, and electronic communication
Shift and Schedule

12‑Hour Night Shift, Full‑time, Scheduled Weekly Hours 36. Shift type:
Night. Cost Center 6845‑Women and Children’s Admin (BMH).
