Position Overview

BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital.

Title:

Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor Delivery Unit (Bronson Methodist Hospital) – Part‑time Weekender Night Shift (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.).

Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision and in accordance with organizational policies, the RN manages the care delivery for patients throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge using the nursing process: assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate care provided by other professionals and delegate selected acts, tasks, or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice.
  • Provide selected aspects of physical care appropriate to the patient’s acuity and complexity of care required within the scope of professional nursing practice.
  • Document and communicate during each tour of duty the patient’s response to care, consumption of resources, and anticipated needs.
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation: assess physical and developmental needs, analyze assessment data, document nursing history, review vital signs, and detect deviations from normal.
  • Determine patient problems or issues from assessment data, confirm problems with patient and family, and document expected outcomes and plan of care.
  • Develop individualized plans that incorporate patient/family input, ethical and cultural considerations, clinical pathways, and continuity of care.
  • Implement the plan: administer medications and treatments, utilize evidence‑based interventions, maintain patient comfort and safety, initiate patient education, organize and delegate interventions, and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes by assessing effectiveness of interventions and documenting responses.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, ongoing educational activities, and peer review to enhance nursing practice.
  • Maintain compassionate and caring relationships with peers and collaborate with patient, family, and multidisciplinary teams to effect positive outcomes.
  • Integrate ethical provisions, protect patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights, and advocate for patients.
  • Utilize research findings to improve patient health and nursing practice.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice when planning and delivering nursing services, including delegation of tasks.
  • Provide leadership in the professional practice setting, participate in borough‑based committees, attend at least 50% of unit staff meetings, and work to create a healthy work environment.
Scrub RN Responsibilities
  • Interpret procedure cards and assess case carts for supplies before procedures.
  • Identify missing equipment, arrange acquisitions, and maintain proper use of equipment and instruments.
  • Observe changes in patient condition, update case information, and mirror surgeon needs.
  • Act as specialist and resource for circulators unfamiliar with positioning devices and specialty equipment.
  • Handle after‑hour calls on a rotational basis and perform scrub duties in multiple services (e.g., neuro, ortho, spinal fusion).
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required; bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred and must be obtained within 8years of hire.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Michigan.
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation;
    Critical‑Care or ALS certification required for some RNs, unit specific.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Capability to handle mental/visual fatigue, lift up to 50pounds, and perform repetitive or detailed tasks requiring sustained alertness.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional records, continuing education, and participation in quality improvement and research activities.
