Job SummaryA Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice registered nurse with expertise in nursing management of a defined specialty population. The CNS translates evidence-based practices into high quality patient care, via direct care, consultation, system leadership, collaboration, coaching, and research to improve outcomes for patients, families, nurses, and the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Exhibits strong analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Displays sound computer skills across multiple software applications.
- Possesses a high degree of flexibility and manages multiple concurrent projects.
- Assists with issue identification and problem resolution.
- Demonstrates strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Works effectively in inter‑professional teams.
- Provides direct patient care and consults with interdisciplinary teams to achieve high quality outcomes.
- Leads system change to improve nursing practice and health outcomes.
- Handles tasks that may require lifting up to 50 pounds and prolonged hand/eye coordination.
- Work may involve moderate to high mental and visual fatigue.
- Master’s degree (MSN or MS in Nursing).
- Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- Minimum of two years recent clinical obstetrical nursing experience.
- Minimum of two years labor and delivery experience.
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.
- Basic Life Support certification within orientation period.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within orientation period if providing coverage for critically ill patient populations.
- Direct Care – direct interaction with patients, families, and groups to promote health and improve quality of life.
- Consultation – patient, staff, or system‑focused interaction to implement practice improvements.
- System Leadership – manages change and empowers others to improve practice.
- Collaboration – works jointly to optimize clinical outcomes.
- Coaching – provides skillful guidance and teaching to advance care.
- Research – generates new knowledge and contributes to nursing science.
- Ethical Decision‑Making, Moral Agency, and Advocacy – identifies and acts on ethical concerns at patient, family, provider, and system levels.
Full time with 40 scheduled weekly hours. Shift: First shift (daytime). Hours and specific shift time type to be confirmed at interview.
