Job Summary

A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice registered nurse with expertise in nursing management of a defined specialty population. The CNS translates evidence-based practices into high quality patient care, via direct care, consultation, system leadership, collaboration, coaching, and research to improve outcomes for patients, families, nurses, and the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibits strong analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Displays sound computer skills across multiple software applications.
  • Possesses a high degree of flexibility and manages multiple concurrent projects.
  • Assists with issue identification and problem resolution.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Works effectively in inter‑professional teams.
  • Provides direct patient care and consults with interdisciplinary teams to achieve high quality outcomes.
  • Leads system change to improve nursing practice and health outcomes.
  • Handles tasks that may require lifting up to 50 pounds and prolonged hand/eye coordination.
  • Work may involve moderate to high mental and visual fatigue.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (MSN or MS in Nursing).
  • Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Minimum of two years recent clinical obstetrical nursing experience.
  • Minimum of two years labor and delivery experience.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.
  • Basic Life Support certification within orientation period.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within orientation period if providing coverage for critically ill patient populations.

Shift & Schedule

Full time with 40 scheduled weekly hours. Shift: First shift (daytime). Hours and specific shift time type to be confirmed at interview.
