Unit Coordinator – Surgical Services – BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital
The Unit Coordinator operates under the general supervision of the unit manager or director, acting as a leader, clinical liaison, and mentor to staff. This role ensures continuity of leadership, maintains unit standards, oversees daily operations, and supports workforce management to achieve quality patient care and departmental efficiency.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership and serve as a clinical liaison with staff, physicians, and management.
- Coach, mentor, and support staff to maintain unit standards and foster a team environment.
- Assist in recruitment, orientation, performance monitoring, and staff development.
- Coordinate staffing and scheduling, including day‑to‑day adjustments and addressing personnel shortages.
- Manage payroll, budget, and related administrative functions as directed.
- Serve as the first responder for clinical and service recovery issues.
- Maintain a safe environment of care through quality monitoring and audit facilitation for accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Organize and facilitate shared governance meetings, charge nurse meetings, and other unit meetings.
- Provide guidance and supervision to personnel accountable to the nurse manager.
- Act as a clinical expert resource and promote innovation and creativity within the unit.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience (Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan).
- Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
- Prior management or leadership experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Advanced Nursing certifications (e.g., ACLS, BLS, PALS, Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as required by unit designation.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and team‑leadership abilities.
- Proficiency with computer software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Ability to analyze and organize data, speak and write English fluently.
Full‑time, 40 hours per week (scheduled weekly).
