Qualifications
  • Previous operating room experience required
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; must be obtained within 8 years of hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • All nurses hired after December 29, 2013 who do not hold a BSN (or higher) will have 8 years from the date of hire to obtain the degree; employment may be terminated if the requirement is not met
Responsibilities
  • Manage care delivery for surgical patients, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
  • Coordinate care with other professionals, delegate appropriate tasks, and provide selected aspects of physical care as needed
  • Document and communicate patient responses, resource usage, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty
  • Read, interpret, and analyze data from computer systems and equipment to develop appropriate plans of action
  • Communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically with team members and patients/families
  • Perform manual tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting with heavier loads as required by the environment
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to patient health, assess physical and developmental needs, and analyze assessment data to identify patient problems
  • Document nursing history, age‑appropriate needs and strengths, and vital sign trends
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care, incorporating clinical pathways, patient/family input, and interdisciplinary data
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and policies
  • Maintain awareness of patient comfort and safety needs, initiate education plans, and coordinate their implementation
  • Organize and delegate patient care interventions, evaluate effectiveness, and adjust care as needed
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, using results to initiate changes in nursing practice
  • Engage in ongoing educational activities, maintain professional records, and participate in self‑evaluation and peer review
  • Collaborate with multiple health disciplines, advocate for patients, and provide culturally and ethically appropriate care
  • Integrate research findings into practice, identify clinical problems, and contribute to evidence‑based policy development
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice when planning and delivering nursing services
  • Lead in professional practice, participate in nursing councils, attend at least 50% of unit staff meetings, and help create a professional, healthy work environment
  • Scrub RN duties: interpret procedure cards, verify supplies, anticipate physician needs, observe patient condition changes, update case information, ensure proper equipment use, support circulators, perform multi‑service scrub duties, and cover after‑hour calls on a rotational basis
