Pre-Operative

  • Complete comprehensive patient assessments and verify readiness for surgery.
  • Review medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, and required documentation.
  • Verify informed consent, surgical site, and procedural documentation.
  • Start and maintain IV access as needed.
  • Administer pre-operative medications per physician and anesthesia orders.
  • Educate patients and families regarding the surgical process, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Operating Room (Circulator)
  • Prepare operating rooms, equipment, supplies, and instrumentation for scheduled procedures.
  • Perform surgical time-outs and maintain patient safety throughout the procedure.
  • Serve as the circulating nurse for a variety of surgical specialties.
  • Maintain sterile technique and support the surgical team.
  • Accurately document intraoperative care and patient records.
  • Anticipate surgeon and anesthesia needs while promoting efficiency and workflow.
  • Respond appropriately during emergencies and assist with crisis management.
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia using established recovery criteria.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of airway, breathing, circulation, neurological status, and pain control.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered.
  • Recognize and respond to post-operative complications.
  • Provide discharge education to patients and caregivers.
  • Ensure patients meet discharge criteria before release.
General Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient-centered care while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia providers, sterile processing, and support staff.
  • Cross-train and function in all perioperative areas as staffing and patient volume require.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection prevention, and patient safety activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure compliance with AAAHC standards, CMS regulations, OSHA guidelines, and facility policies.
  • Assist with room turnover, supply management, and maintaining a clean, organized environment.
  • Participate in department meetings, education, competencies, and continuing professional development.
Qualifications

-Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
-Current BLS certification required.
-ACLS required or obtained within facility guidelines.
-PALS preferred based on patient population.
-Previous perioperative nursing experience preferred.
-Operating Room circulating experience preferred.
-PACU and/or critical care experience preferred.
-Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
-Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
