Job Description

Bronson Healthcare in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an experienced oncology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its high‑performing cancer team at the Bronson Cancer Center – Kalamazoo.

Position Highlights
  • Practice in Kalamazoo five days per week at Bronson’s brand new facility opened in January 2021 and at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
  • Join a practice consisting of 7 medical oncology & hematology physicians, 6 advanced practice providers, and multiple other clinical staff providing nurse navigation, survivorship, social work, nutritional support, and palliative care.
  • Hospital‑employed inpatient and outpatient position working M‑F, 8 am to 5 pm.
  • APP will see patients in the outpatient setting and participate in inpatient work on a rotational basis with other APP to include rounding and admissions.
  • No call required currently.
  • Ideal candidate will have medical oncology and hematology experience.
  • Potential opportunity for an APP leadership role.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive and problem‑focused histories and physical examinations, interpret laboratory and radiologic tests, and correlate subjective and objective patient data to formulate a diagnosis.
  • Under the direction of the physician, review patient findings and develop a treatment plan within the scope of practice.
  • Carry out above activities in the outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Maintain competency specific to the population served.
  • Demonstrate prescriptive authority and collaborative agreement with oversight physician(s).
  • Support high levels of mental/visual fatigue such as interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring sustained alertness.
  • Perform regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and lifting of light weight objects.
  • Concurrent clinical management: coordinate care with multidisciplinary team, act as a clinical resource, identify common patient complications, and assist in development and integration of quality measures.
  • Utilization review: assess patient needs, apply regulatory criteria, facilitate timely discharges/transfers to appropriate level of care.
  • Evaluate and appropriately manage patients, including lab, EKG, and imaging studies; complete documentation to support billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes.
  • Be available for nursing questions or to evaluate status changes for patients.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Current unrestricted or pending licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • DEA license to prescribe medications.
  • Current prescriptive authority and collaborative agreement with oversight physician(s).
  • Ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs, and other software relevant to the job.
  • Regularly communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing (Utilizing SBAR technique).
  • Communicate with internal customers such as physicians, multidisciplinary team, finance, management and external customers such as patients, third party payers, community agencies on a daily basis and often simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
