Healthcare Security Specialist – Third Shift

Location: BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo
Title: Healthcare Security Specialist – Third Shift (11:00p.m. to 7:00a.m.)

• Maintain the safety and security of hospital properties, grounds, patients, visitors, and staff.
• Enforce hospital policies, including No‑Trespass orders, and address potential security issues proactively.
• Provide exceptional customer service, greeting patients and visitors, and assisting them to their destinations.
• Respond to calls for aid, emergency codes, and violent or distressed patient situations, including de‑escalation and restraint when necessary.
• Operate computers, tablets, mobile devices, and security surveillance systems throughout the shift.
• Prepare and complete incident reports, follow up on incomplete reports, and investigate accidents, thefts, and safety violations.
• Patrol hospital buildings and grounds according to scheduled rounds, making unscheduled rounds as needed to detect theft, vandalism, or other threats.
• Serve as shift charge when assigned, coordinating routine operations and directing other personnel.
• Assist with parking control, escort employees and visitors to vehicles, and provide general assistance (e.g., lockouts, jump‑starting).
• Participate in or provide education on access control, fire drills, and other security procedures.
• Maintain professional conduct that promotes positive hospital and community relations.

• High school diploma or GED; security and/or healthcare security experience preferred.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Ability to be insured through the company’s insurance carrier.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in operating computers, tablets, and security systems.
• Physical capacity to lift up to 50pounds and perform other moderate lifting or handling tasks.
• Capability to manage high‑stress situations calmly, defuse dangerous or hostile incidents, and apply patient‑management techniques.
• Completion of department‑mandated violent patient‑management and de‑escalation training.
• Commitment to ongoing training, including annual department continuing‑education courses and certifications.

Shift: 11:00p.m. – 7:00a.m.

Schedule:

Sun., M, T, W, Sat… Sun., M, T (approximately 64 hours per person per month).
Part‑time (approximately 32 hours weekly) with potentially full‑time coverage based on duty requirements.

Sign‑on bonus: up to $375.00 for external candidates.
Retention bonus: up to $375.00 for external candidates.
