Healthcare Security Specialist (Kalamazoo) – Part‑time, Second Shift

Location:

BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital

Second shift: 3:00pm–11:00pm. Three‑hour shift schedule: 48hrs per pay period with the following alternation: week1 – Friday, Saturday; week2 – Sunday, Monday, Friday, Saturday.

• Provide safety and security of BHG properties, grounds, patients, visitors and staff.
• Uphold Bronson’s policies and procedures via the Standards for Excellence; display professionalism and provide exceptional customer service.
• Escort patients, visitors, and staff to their destinations; greet and assist them.
• Conduct regular patrols of hospital buildings and grounds; make unscheduled rounds.
• Respond to calls for aid, especially in the Emergency Department; assist in calming or restraining disturbed patients.
• Escort individuals from hospital premises when necessary; assist with parking control and provide general assistance to employees and visitors.
• Respond to emergency security situations and emergency codes.
• Investigate and prepare reports detailing accidents, thefts, lost property and safety and security violations; complete incident reports and follow up on all incomplete reports.
• Serve as shift charge when assigned; coordinate routine operations and direct other personnel.
• Provide education on access control, fire drills and other security topics as required.
• Use a computer, tablet or mobile device and the security surveillance system during shift.
• Lift bulky or moderately heavy weights up to 50lbs and handle equipment and materials.
• Enforce no‑trespass orders and recognize potential problems, taking corrective action.
• Interact and problem solve with other units and staff when a security presence is needed.
• Defuse and de‑escalate stressful situations using patient‑management techniques.
• Cope with high levels of stress, anger, fear and hostility in a calm manner.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Security and/or healthcare security experience preferred.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Insurable through Bronson’s insurance carrier.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations and take control during emergencies.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
• Completion of required violent patient management and de‑escalation training.
• Completion of annual department continuing‑education trainings and certificates, including system CBLs.

• Part‑time; 48hrs per pay period.
• Scheduled:
  Week1 – Friday, Saturday;
  Week2 – Sunday, Monday, Friday, Saturday.
• Weekly hours: 24.

• Sign‑on bonus up to $375 for external candidates.
• Retention bonus up to $375 for external candidates.
