Electrical Technician
Performs highly technical electrical work in the maintenance of the electrical installations and equipment in the Utilities plants and stations; performs related work as required. The employee in this classification is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing the Utilities' electrical equipment, motor controls and process instrumentation. Independent judgment and action are required under general supervision.
Examples of Duties:
- Inspects, tests, and performs periodic checks of installations.
- Aids in the review of plans and diagrams for projects.
- Tests, installs, and maintains motors, generators, transfers, fans, relays, switch gear, and control panels.
- Installs circuit breakers, motors, and load control centers and related high voltage equipment as well as components of the power distribution system.
- Maintains inventory, and aids in the preparation of specifications; responsible for installation, calibration, configuration and troubleshooting of process instrumentation.
Essential
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge and skill in industrial electrical installations and process control electrical construction.
- Good knowledge of how to review project plans and prepare specifications.
- Working skill in maintaining records and inventories.
Acceptable Training and
Experience:
Vocational training at the journeyman level in electrical installations and five years' experience in process control electrical construction, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the essential knowledge and skills. A State of Michigan electrical journeyman's license is required upon assuming the position. PLC's, frequency drives, and NFPA
70E (arc flash) experience desirable. ISA certification and/or experience with process instrumentation a plus.
