Shop Lead Mechanic

Shop Lead Mechanic $30-$40 per hour DOE plus overtime pay

PK Contracting ,LLC is seeking an experienced Shop Lead Mechanic (Day Shift) to lead and oversee the daily operations of our maintenance shop at our Kalamazoo Division.

This position includes a minimum of one weekend shift per month, in addition to Monday through Friday working hours. The Shop Lead Mechanic is responsible for supervising mechanics and shop personnel, coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance, ensuring safe work practices, maintaining regulatory compliance, and maximizing equipment uptime.

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of diesel mechanics and maintenance personnel.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, air systems, brakes, suspensions, and other mechanical components on heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Assist with diagnosing complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and provide technical guidance to mechanics.
• Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with company standards.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, OSHA, state, and federal regulations.
• Train, mentor, and develop mechanics to improve technical skills, productivity, and workmanship.
• Promote and maintain a safe, clean, productive, and efficient work environment.
• Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and leadership in all aspects of the position.
• Perform hands‑on repairs and maintenance as needed to support shop operations.

Monday-Friday plus ONE additional weekend shift per month

$30-$40 per hour DOE plus overtime pay

• Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a heavy equipment, truck, or diesel repair environment.
• Previous experience supporting roadway, pavement marking, striping, or heavy civil construction operations is highly desirable
• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience preferred.
• Strong experience with diesel engine, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical repairs.
• Ability to effectively diagnose and troubleshoot complex equipment issues.
• Knowledge of DOT inspection requirements and maintenance regulations.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage workflow in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience with maintenance management systems and repair documentation.
  
  Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions.
• Must be dependable, organized, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
• Must have own tools.
• CDL-A preferred but not required.
• Successful candidates will pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
