GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to support the CASA Program by recruiting, coordinating, and supporting volunteer advocates who serve children in the child welfare system. The Advocate Coordinator works closely with staff to ensure volunteers are trained, supported, and retained while maintaining communication, assisting with case needs, and upholding Kalamazoo County CASA, Michigan CASA, and National CASA standards. This is a parttime temporary Grant Funded position.
ESSENTIALDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Volunteer Management
- Assign cases, review, and approve monthly and court reports.
- Provide feedback on assignments through regular documented contact with volunteers.
- Advise and instruct volunteers regarding the child welfare and court process.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, support, and information to volunteers.
- Resolve casework or interpersonal problems with CASA volunteers and partners.
- Support in volunteer training, recruitment, and retention efforts as appropriate.
- Coordinate and retain required documentation on all CASA cases.
- Maintain all required records and documentation for volunteer files.
- Enter the required information in the Program Database to track volunteers and their casework.
- Initiate orders for the assignment of volunteers to cases.
- Track all incoming cases for referral, waitlist, and assignment.
- Maintain collaborative partnerships with case workers and court personnel.
- Attend Family Team Meetings and court hearings and maintain the court calendar.
- Attend conferences and workshops for professional development of self and volunteers.
- Assist in community outreach about the mission of the Kalamazoo CASA Program.
- Work with other agencies to develop cooperative relationships and resolve problems.
- Identify and keep informed about available human service resources for children and families.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Program Director or the Supervisor of the field services department.
- Weekly travel is required to provide services, attend training and attend events.
- Perform related work as required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
- 2-3 years of experience in an advocacy role within court systems
- Previous experience working with children, adolescents and families. Experience working with volunteers is preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of child abuse and neglect, families in crisis and other social service skills are priorities.
- Entry-level or project/case management experience as well as basic computer skills preferred.
- English is required, Billingual English/Spanish preferred.
- National CASA training completion within 6 months of hiring
- Possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License
Starting Rate of Pay: $17.50
