DEPARTMENT AND LOCATION OF JOB: FVCC Honors Program — Blake Hall (Honors Classroom and Office)

ELIGIBILITY: Students must be Work Study Eligible (as determined by Financial Aid)

START DATE: This position will start August 17, 2026, Fall semester 2026

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: Academic Calendar Year 2026/2027

PAY RANGE: $14.00 to $15.00 per hour depending on experience

WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible schedule between Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May work up to 10 hours per week.

DRESS CODE: Casual wear with appropriate coverage.

POSITION PURPOSE/ROLE: The Honors Program Student Assistant provides organizational and administrative support to the Co-Directors of the FVCC Honors Program. This position helps maintain the day-to-day operations of the program—including event coordination, recruitment, outreach and Honors Conference logistics—so the program can continue to deliver a high-caliber academic experience to honors students at FVCC.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Maintain Honors student volunteer hours, under the direction of the Associate Director
  • Assist with end-of-semester FVCC Honors Conference logistics: room and presentation setup, awards preparation, food and refreshments, judge folder assembly, and day‑of coordination
  • Send scheduling and logistics communications to faculty and community judges using Co‑Director‑approved templates
  • Help staff the Honors Program recruitment booth during Week of Welcome and other on‑campus recruitment events
  • Distribute printed recruitment materials and post visual advertisements across campus in coordination with Marketing
  • Maintain the Honors Classroom, office, and lounge/cabinet area in clean, organized condition
  • Support Honors Orientation logistics, including room setup, materials preparation, and event‑day assistance
  • Compile and organize course proposal materials for the Honors Steering Committee
  • Send routine reminder communications to honors students about program events and deadlines
  • Other organizational and clerical duties as assigned by the Co‑Directors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled FVCC student in good academic standing (Honors Program member or 3.5+ GPA preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and professional email communication
  • Comfortable with basic data entry, spreadsheets, and recordkeeping
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, donors, and community judges
  • Ability to problem‑solve and be self‑motivated
  • Possess good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures
  • Possesses a cooperative spirit in working with peers, supervisors, students, donors, and the public

STUDENT SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Event planning and logistics coordination, professional written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders, recordkeeping and data management, teamwork, time management, customer service, and exposure to academic program administration.

PREDICTED OUTCOME:

  • Ability to plan and execute multi‑stakeholder academic events from setup through completion
  • Improved skill in professional written communication with faculty, judges, and the public
  • Experience maintaining accurate student records and tracking longitudinal program data
  • Familiarity with the operations of an academic honors program and an undergraduate research conference
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced academic office

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

  • Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits for fall or spring semester to qualify for student employment.
  • Students may not work beyond 19 hours per week during semester.
  • Student workers shall be actively engaged; no use of cell phones (except in case of emergency) or social media.
  • Student workers shall demonstrate a commitment to the job with adherence to work schedule, effective communication/interpersonal skills, and quality customer service skills to be a representative of FVCC.
