Public Safety Crime Analyst/Records Clerk

Salary: $23.96/hour (Not including shift pay)

General Class Description
Inputs, maintains, retrieves, researches and analyzes official law enforcement documents data including but not limited to: case reports, citations, accidents, arrests and other related records or reports, tracks current crime trends using spreadsheet and mapping programs, answers telephones, routing callers to the proper authority, and provides customer service in person, by telephone or via written/electronic correspondence.Responds to requests for information from within the Police Department, other related agencies, businesses, and the general public in accordance with established policies and practices.Enters warrants, stolen property and missing persons into Criminal Justice Information Network/National Crime Information Network (CJIN/NCIC) and checks records for accuracy.Communicates with public safety fire, police and public works departments via radio when required.Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Public Safety Crime Analyst (50%)
Monitor and record officer activity in booking area and building security cameras.Checks accuracy of information retrieved and analyzes data to track current crime trends using spreadsheet and mapping programs.Responds to requests for confidential law enforcement information by retrieving information from computer system or hard copy files.Enters all citations and traffic accident data into the computer system for later retrieval of needed information.Operates CJIN system, Records Management System (RMS) computer terminals, adding and removing reports and information as requested.Enter and maintain warrants and records such as stolen vehicles, guns, property, protection orders, etc. in RMS and CJIN/NCIC.Responds to other law enforcement agencies and organizations requests for case information or information regarding victims, suspects, or arrests.Inputs data to standard office and department forms, both manual and automated; makes simple postings to various reports; compiles and tabulates data.Assists Evidence Custodian in maintaining evidence as described in Evidence Custodian’s job description.Review MTI data through the Records Management System.Maintain subject jackets in the Records Management System with updated information.Records Clerk (40%)
Performs full range of specialized police clerical functions and processing a variety of police reports for the Kalispell Police Department, including citations, arrests, accidents, and criminal and non-criminal complaints.Answers telephone and personal inquiries from the public and routes visitors and telephone calls to the proper authority.Receives initial requests from the news media and refers to the proper department personnel to ensure timely and correct information release.Operates various office machines; 10-key, copying machine, fax machine, recorders, etc.Routes incoming mail to respective departments/staff.Composes, types, and edits correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.Compiles and forwards juvenile arrest records to Youth Court Services.Assists police officers in obtaining case reports, records, and other information as requested.Forwards required report forms, DUIs, citations, etc. to the proper agency.Responds to citizen comments and complaints as rapidly as possible with correct information and may refer difficult situations to supervisors.Other (10%)

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)
Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized coursework in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting, or bookkeeping.Two years of increasingly responsible related experience in law enforcement, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.Certification or ability to obtain certification in the Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) System within 6 months of hire.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
