GENERAL CLASS DESCRIPTION

Assist in planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising after school and recreation activities for youth ages 5-13 yrs. Provide quality service and maintain positive public relations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

It is expected that every employee should be fully prepared on time every day that they are scheduled to work. We expect employees to strive for perfect attendance.

After school/Camp Coordinator (70%)
  • Create staff and activity schedules and assign duties to ensure program efficiency. Ensure appropriate staffing to carry out the functions of the After school Program.
  • Under supervision of Recreation Superintendent and Recreation Programmer, plans and implements daily activities such as games, special events, physical fitness, arts and crafts, team building, outdoor skills, etc.
  • Maintain a variety of records and forms such as permission slips, incident forms, and attendance records.
  • Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering and making phone calls, taking care of equipment, and cleaning.
  • Respond to public inquiries or comments, such as questions and complaints.
  • Respond to and take care of circumstances requiring first aid.
Recreation Aide (25%)
  • Assist Recreation Superintendent and Recreation Programmer in carrying out the functions of recreation programs.
  • Lead activities such as sports, games, and recreation programs by providing information to volunteer coaches and referee scrimmages.
  • Always keep recreation facilities clean and in order.
  • Work independently and be responsible for overseeing activities at designated locations such as parks, school facilities and areas for special events including weekends and evenings.
  • Set up for program activities and serve as an on-site assistant.
Peripheral Duties (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the supervision of the Recreation Superintendent and Recreation Programmer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises after school employees, recreation programs and camp participants ranging in age from 5-13 yrs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA’s)
  • Working knowledge of program planning, implementation, and evaluation techniques.
  • Working knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used at the After School/Recreation program.
  • Knowledge and Skills of First Aid and CPR.
  • Skilled in operation of tools and equipment used by an After school/Recreation Counselor.
  • Ability to operate a computer. Familiarity with Microsoft suite including Outlook, Word, Excel. Familiarity with and/or willingness to learn recreation management software, staff scheduling software, and other computer programs/software as needed.
  • Skilled in good verbal and written communication and the ability to interact positively and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to have a genuine concern for the well-being and development of young children.
  • Ability and fortitude to abide by and enforce rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to be self-motivated with the initiative to carry out work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to After School/Recreation programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the general public.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively.
  • Ability to give and understand oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain calm in emergency situations.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience)
  • Two years of increasingly responsible related work experience and/or related educational experience.
  • Experience working with children ages 5-13 years is preferred.
