Summary
Adjunct Native American Studies Instructor will teach Native American Studies courses on campus, face‑to‑face, for up to two classes per semester. The instructor will handle 3–6 credits per semester, primarily for Spring 2026 or later, with classes scheduled day or evening as needed. This is a temporary, non‑benefit eligible position determined on a course‑by‑course contract basis.
Essential Duties- Conveys knowledge of the subject area effectively to promote student learning outcomes.
- Fosters positive student and community relations.
- Maintains and submits instructional records in accordance with requirements.
- Integrates subject area with related curricula.
- Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
- Works professionally with college faculty and staff to aid in the educational process.
- Remains current in practices, trends, and research related to areas of assignment.
- Attends meetings and participates in student and/or program assessment as directed.
- Actively participates in creating a climate that promotes innovation and continuous improvement in services to students, faculty, and the college.
- Creates and maintains a collaborative, collegial environment with colleagues and effective working relationships.
- Reports to the Director of Academic Affairs.
- Master’s degree in the field in which the course(s) reside; or
- Master’s degree in a closely related academic discipline AND at least nine graduate semester credits in the specific academic discipline.
- Experience teaching in a secondary, post‑secondary, or higher education environment.
- Experience in differentiated instruction for diverse student populations.
- Ability to effectively and safely teach content and technical material.
- Effective organizational and leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of technology use in a learning environment.
- Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the college by interacting appropriately with the community and students.
- Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
- Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.
- Ability to follow and issue instructions.
- Demonstrated communication, presentation, educational service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to perform a Medium Duty job (exertion of 20–50 pounds occasionally, or 10–25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds continuously).
