Salary: Minimum base salary $49,580 with a bachelor’s degree and $56,580 with a master’s degree.

Tenure Track: Yes – the position is tenure track for holders of a master’s degree; for those without a master’s, the position is non‑tenure track until a master’s is completed.

Position Overview

Primary focus areas include Agriculture, Natural Resources, Horticulture, and 4‑H Youth Development, with a secondary emphasis on Community Vitality. The main responsibility is to assess local community needs and develop, implement, and evaluate research‑based Extension programming to meet those needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct community needs assessment and develop, plan, implement, facilitate, and evaluate successful, research‑based educational programs in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Horticulture, 4‑H Youth Development, and Community Vitality.
  • Provide shared leadership with the peer Glacier County agent for development, planning, facilitation, and evaluation of the county 4‑H program and office administrative duties, fostering positive youth development and adult engagement toward a successful 4‑H program and a balanced, interdisciplinary extension program.
  • Collaborate with Extension faculty and county staff to plan and execute the four‑county Marias Fair and the Multi‑County 4‑H Camp.
  • Collaborate with local and regional Extension staff, community leaders, and stakeholders to conduct needs assessment to identify and inform educational programming priorities in Glacier County.
  • Embrace a team approach to planning, developing, and implementing the overall MSU Extension program in Glacier County.
  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with peer Extension agents, Extension specialists, county commissioners, and appropriate local individuals, groups, boards, agencies, and organizations to leverage educational programming in Glacier County.
  • Obtain licenses/certifications and provide oversight of the local Private Pesticide Applicator and Montana Noxious Weed Seed Free Forage programs in Glacier County.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in agriculture, animal science, agronomy, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead groups; assess needs; and plan, implement, facilitate, teach, and evaluate educational programs for youth and adult audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership for Extension programming for youth, adults, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with individuals, groups, and community organizations representing a wide variety of youth and adult audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of youth and adult learning principles and their application to community‑based education and outreach.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • At least one degree in agriculture, animal science, agronomy, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and help them find constructive solutions to locally identified issues.
  • Extension experience or demonstrated understanding of the Extension education model.
Special Requirements / Additional Information
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points). Vehicle access is required; mileage will be reimbursed, and minimum vehicle liability insurance is necessary.
  • Positional tenure track status is contingent upon holding a master’s degree; non‑tenure track holders will transition to a tenure track position upon completion of a master’s degree.
