Position Overview
Mechanical & Industrial Engineering faculty members are expected to contribute to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching in areas of mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or industrial engineering related to the applicant’s strengths. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, participation in accreditation activities and committee assignments, and service to the university, state, and profession.

General StatementMontana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re‑submit materials for continued consideration. The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials.
Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non‑tenure track faculty hiring pool. Appointments are on a part‑time basis and vary in duration, a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.
- Teach on-campus and/or online courses.
- Advise, evaluate and assist students.
- Participate in curriculum and/or course development.
- Contribute positively and professionally to the academic success of students and the mission of Montana State University.
- Relevant degree and experience in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Relevant professional experience and insight into the theoretical frameworks of the field or discipline of teaching responsibility.
- Currency in area of teaching responsibility.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Have a broad understanding in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering.
- Have the ability to mentor and inspire students from all backgrounds.
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Have the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and the engineering industry.
- Have the potential to provide leadership and to assume responsibility for organizational and program activities.
