Hunting Access Technician

Assists the Regional Access Manager with the management and implementation of lands enrolled in Department hunting access programs. The role coordinates hunter use on FWP-managed private lands, manages compliance issues for private landowners, and functions as a member of the regional access team. This is a seasonal, full-time position based in Kalispell with travel across Region 1, typically from early August through early January.

The incumbent must:

• Communicate effectively with private landowners, hunters, partner agencies, and Department staff.
• Learn and clearly explain Department programs and compliance procedures to the public.
• Work independently in remote locations with minimal supervision, demonstrating sound judgment and situational awareness.
• Assist with the implementation of hunting access programs, adapting area rules and procedures to changing hunting conditions.
• Establish and maintain public hunting access sites by posting signs, locating and marking boundaries, setting up parking areas, and maintaining information or permission stations.
• Collect, maintain, and summarize hunting access use data, including daily and seasonal hunter activity.
• Prepare program materials and reports.
• Serve as a resource for landowners and hunters by answering questions and resolving conflicts involving recreational use.
• Issue permissions and maintain records for specialized hunter permission systems where applicable.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities typically obtained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or equivalency.
