Position: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Ambulance, 0.75 FTE

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the assessment and basic management of medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of on or off-line medical control, assisting with patient care, acting within scope of practice of an EMT-Basic and under the supervision of a Paramedic, Registered Nurse, or Emergency Department Physician.
  • Respond to emergency / non-emergency calls and transfers, providing efficient and immediate care to the ill and injured, and safely transporting the patient to an appropriate medical facility.
  • Maintain ambulances and equipment in proper functioning condition and in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Assist and provide professional treatments and observations as directed for patient care in the Emergency Department and within the hospital facilities as continuation of care until transfer of care is completed.
  • Ensure ambulances are ready to respond to the next call and have reports completed prior to shift end.
  • Be visible and assist in the Emergency Department and other nursing departments, performing skills within levels of training such as vital signs, EKGs, IV insertions, specimen collection, transfers to the floor, room cleaning and preparation, entering patient information into the EDM module, direct observation of patients, rounding, and other jobs that assist in patient care and ED flow.
  • Follow specific department policies and procedures, attend ED training opportunities as they arise.
  • Precept, mentor, and supervise students and new staff.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory trainings or meetings, including staff meetings and competencies.
  • PRN staff required to attend all mandatory trainings and meetings and work a minimum of 3 shifts per 6 week schedule.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
: 1 Year of practical experience in Emergency Medical Services or related is preferred.

EDUCATION
:
High school graduate, HiSET or GED equivalent required. Successful completion of a DOT approved Emergency Medical Technician
- Basic course is required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY
:
State of Montana Licensure required. National (NREMT) certification preferred. Current BLS Certification is required. Current Montana State unrestricted driver’s license and excellent driving record is required, EVOC certification within one year of employment date. Completed EMT endorsement courses are preferred.
