Log Stacker

Overview

The Large Log Stacker position at our Kalispell Lumber facility supports production flow and operates within a highly automated wood products environment.

Hourly pay rate: $30.23. A $1,500 hiring bonus is offered (details provided at time of interview/offer).

• Support manufacturing by maximizing and maintaining production flow of raw logs entering the Kalispell Log Yard and being fed to the Kalispell Lumber and Plywood facilities in a safe manner, contributing to corporate, plant, and departmental goals.
• Collaborate with Log Yard Equipment Operators, Scalers, Inventory Lead, Barker Operator and Truck Drivers.
• Operate log sorter (325 Cat, 322 Cat, 966 Cat, 980 Cat, 988 Cat), live bottom, dump truck, grader, and water truck.
• Unload logging trucks, deck logs by widths (short and long), sort logs into bins by width and size, doze chip pile, perform snow removal, and clean up log yard.
• Perform daily inspection and preventative maintenance of machinery, including visual inspections, fueling and greasing, and reporting maintenance needs to the mechanic shop.
• Assist with scale house tasks and problems at unmanned log scale.

• Three or more years of experience operating heavy equipment required.
• Equipment maintenance experience is a plus.

• Experience with log sorters (325 Cat, 322 Cat), dozers (966 Cat, 980 Cat, 988 Cat), live bottom and dump trucks, road grader, and water truck.
• Strong mechanical abilities for basic equipment repair, welding, and hydraulic systems knowledge.
• Familiarity with formal safety procedures and ability to follow them to maintain a safe work environment.
• Above-average computer skills and willingness to learn new applications.
• Ability to work closely with supervisors and other departments; team player/leader tendencies; good communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Self-starter with willingness to complete leadership programs as necessary.
• Willingness to work any shift, overtime, and weekends.
• Ability to use computerized Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions.

• The job of Log Yard Equipment Operator is a Medium Duty role, involving exertion of up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and up to 10-25 pounds frequently to move objects, and up to 10 pounds continuously for movement.
• Essential duties include continuously sitting/driving, frequently pushing/pulling, twisting, climbing on/off equipment, and working outside in extreme heat and cold as necessary.
