Reporting to the Education Manager, the Summer Student’s main responsibilities are providing administrative and clerical support. The position maintains contact with students and their parents by providing summer study support, polling on how well the department has supported students, updating procedures, and addressing concerns.
Duties and Tasks- Answering incoming calls
- Booking appointments and assisting with day‑to‑day operation of the department
- Maintain a general filing system for appropriate correspondence and documentation
- Ensure mail taken to main office and incoming mail is picked up daily
- Word processing and data entry
- Booking of appointments and participating in student/parent meetings as required
- Assisting with monthly newsletter submission
- Conducting telephone poll of student homes
Skills and Abilities
- Computer fluent in Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
- Must demonstrate solid interpersonal/communication skills
- Administration, time management and organizational skills
- Problem solving skills and multi‑project management required
- Team‑oriented with a great work ethic, a self‑starter and able to work independently
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Liaise effectively with various government agencies and organizations
- Have completed at least one year post‑secondary education
- Experience with First Nation’s organizations
- Class 5 Driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Reception experience preferred
- Ability and willingness to submit to a criminal record check
- Ability to speak or willingness to learn the Nlaka’pamux language
High volume periods requiring occasional overtime, mixed with low volume periods requiring initiative. Monthly and bi‑weekly deadlines. Close team environment. Frequent dialogue by phone, email, and in person with staff and managers. Occasional distractions from office noise. Working long periods at a computer, with occasional periods on the phone, and paperwork.
