About Active Care Youth and Adult Services
Active Care Youth and Adult Services (ACYAS) is a progressive, innovative organization operating residential resources for youth and adults in British Columbia. We provide trauma‑informed support services of exceptional quality within the context of a home environment.
Position OverviewReporting to the Director, the Program Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of youth and/or adult resource homes. The role ensures a trauma‑informed, person‑centered approach with both persons served and employees, and oversees compliance with CARF standards, funder and company policies, and licensing standards. A valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license is required for transportation duties.
Primary Responsibilities- Develop positive relationships with youth and/or adults, their natural support network, and stakeholders.
- Conduct assessments, develop guidelines of care, and facilitate transition and exit plans.
- Revise individualized care plans and program activities to enhance skills and support movement into alternative living situations.
- Liaise with care teams, ensuring regularly scheduled meetings are attended.
- Advise and/or recommend use of restrictive practices as part of safety plans, ensuring adherence to policies.
- Manage medication delivery, storage, disposal, staff monitoring, annual training, and report medication errors to the Program Director.
- Review files and documentation for accuracy, provide staff feedback and training.
- Ensure appropriate safety and risk management plans; staff adherence reduces incidents.
- Debrief critical incidents, review practices, and recommend changes to increase safety.
- Provide staff support through a trauma‑informed, person‑centered lens.
- Coach, mentor, and discipline staff to manage performance.
- Handle human‑resource issues: hiring, performance appraisal, investigations, discipline, grievances; hire and evaluate personnel.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings with agendas, minutes, and organizational updates.
- Arrange and conduct individual or group training to enhance staff skills.
- Model and support self‑care; attend to staff needs.
- Collaborate with Program Directors and other departments to ensure policies are adhered to and documented.
- Work with scheduling to train staff prior to assignment and consider youth and/or adult best interests.
- Participate in after‑hours rotation as required.
- Perform additional duties as directed.
- Diploma in a related human/social service field;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Three (3) years recent experience in the human services field focused on person‑centered, trauma‑informed practice.
- One (1) year in a leadership role, preferably providing direct supervision.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development.
- Class 5 Drivers Unrestricted License.
- Community Care First Aid with CPR or equivalent.
- or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Working knowledge of program leadership fundamentals for youth and/or adults with complex needs.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex needs and behaviors.
- Clear and sensitive verbal and written communication skills.
- Confident coaching, supervision, performance feedback, and discipline skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organization, planning, and time‑management skills with follow‑through.
- Sound critical thinking, good judgement, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Recognizes the importance of confidentiality, privacy, and ethical decision making.
