Job Summary

The Coldwater Indian Band is seeking an experienced and dedicated Fire Chief to lead our fire department. The Fire Chief will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our community through effective fire prevention, suppression, and emergency response strategies. This is a leadership role that requires strong management skills, community engagement, and a commitment to public safety.

Duties
  • Oversee the daily operations of the fire department, including staffing, training, and resource management
  • Develop and implement fire prevention programs and safety policies
  • Coordinate emergency responses to fires and other incidents, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Manage the department's budget, equipment, and maintenance schedules
  • Collaborate with community leaders and other local agencies to promote fire safety and preparedness initiatives
  • Provide training and mentorship to firefighting personnel and volunteers
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to fire incidents and department activities
  • Act as a liaison between the fire department and the Coldwater Indian Band community
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Band Administrator
Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including active listening and the capacity to effectively share stories and ideas
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with diverse individuals and groups within the community

Experience, Education and Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire service, with progressive leadership experience
  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III certification and other relevant emergency service certifications
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety regulations, emergency response protocols, and community safety programs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resources, and personnel effectively
  • A proactive approach to taking on responsibilities and contributing positively to community projects without constant supervision
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the community and participate in events

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $68,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
